Terms of Service
Last updated: 24 April 2026
1. Who we are
TaxBrain is operated by Allen Living Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 14787139) with its registered office at C/O ABLM Associates Ltd, Regus Stuart House, St Johns Street, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, PE1 5DD. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Allen Living Ltd trading as TaxBrain.
2. What TaxBrain does
TaxBrain is an AI-powered tax-planning assistant for UK taxpayers. You can use our free calculators, take a short quiz to get a personalised savings estimate, and chat with an AI advisor that draws on a knowledge graph built from HMRC guidance.
What TaxBrain is not: we are not your accountant, we do not file tax returns on your behalf, and we do not correspond with HMRC on your behalf. For anything that requires a regulated tax professional — filing returns, representing you in HMRC enquiries, offering a formal opinion — you should engage a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
3. Who TaxBrain is for
TaxBrain currently serves taxpayers resident in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland has its own income-tax regime and we do not yet cover it; Scottish residents should not rely on TaxBrain's guidance for income-tax matters.
You must be 18 or over to use TaxBrain. You agree that any information you provide about your tax position is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
4. AI-generated content
Responses from our AI advisor are generated by a large language model. They are based on HMRC guidance we have indexed and the information you have given us, but they are not, and should not be treated as, professional tax advice. The AI can make mistakes, miss relevant nuance in your situation, or reflect rules that have changed since the guidance was last updated.
Before acting on anything the AI says — especially anything with a material financial or tax consequence — verify it against the HMRC source we cite, and consider running it past a qualified accountant.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use TaxBrain for any purpose that is unlawful under UK law.
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-export content from TaxBrain using automated tools, including for the purpose of training another AI model.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive our knowledge graph, fine-tuning data, or model weights.
- Abuse the free tier by sharing accounts, rotating IP addresses, or otherwise circumventing usage limits.
- Submit information about third parties without their consent.
- Use TaxBrain to give tax advice to other people as if it were your own.
6. Your content and data
You retain all rights in the information you submit to TaxBrain. By using the service you grant us a non-exclusive licence to process that information to provide the service to you and to improve our AI models (for example, by training on anonymised versions of Q&A pairs where you have given a thumbs-up / thumbs-down signal).
How we handle your personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
7. Our intellectual property
TaxBrain, the TaxBrain knowledge graph, our calculators, our fine-tuned model weights, our website design, and the TaxBrain name and branding are owned by Allen Living Ltd or its licensors. Nothing on the site grants you a licence to use our IP except as strictly needed to use the service.
HMRC guidance we reference is public-sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Quotations and citations to HMRC material are used on that basis.
8. No professional advice
Nothing on TaxBrain is professional tax, legal, or financial advice. The service is a planning and information tool. We are not a regulated body for the purposes of providing tax advice and we do not hold ourselves out as such. If you need advice you can rely on, engage a qualified professional (ACCA, ICAEW, CIOT, ATT, or equivalent).
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Allen Living Ltd is not liable for:
- Any decision you make, or fail to make, in reliance on information provided by TaxBrain.
- Any tax, interest, penalty, or other liability imposed by HMRC or any other authority.
- Indirect, consequential, or economic losses, including loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
- Interruptions, bugs, or errors in the service.
Our total aggregate liability to you under or in connection with these terms is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) £50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- gross negligence;
- any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977, or any other applicable UK law.
If any limitation in this clause is found to be unenforceable, the remaining limitations continue to apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Changes to the service
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of TaxBrain at any time, with or without notice. Tax rules change, and we may update our knowledge graph accordingly; figures and advice you saw previously may no longer apply.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using TaxBrain at any time. We can suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or if we reasonably believe continuing to serve you would be unlawful, harmful, or materially disruptive to the service.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will give you reasonable notice — for example, via the email address you used to sign up, or by flagging the change on the site. Continued use of TaxBrain after the change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms, or the service, is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England & Wales.
Before escalating to court, we expect both sides to try in good faith to resolve the issue — please email us at [CONTACT_EMAIL] with the facts, and we'll try to sort it out.
